I have been with the band for a little over 2 years now. It all started one night in Balboa Park – I was there with a friend and we were wandering around and ended up at the organ pavilion. I asked my friend if she didn’t mind watching the rest of the performance. I had been in my high school’s symphonic and jazz bands and played almost every day before or after school. I was a pretty good player! But then I graduated high school, and despite wanting to continue on with the college band program, I found I just didn’t have the time.
I was juggling school along with two jobs, so there just wasn’t any time for my trumpet any more. After moving to San Diego, I was trying to find a good band to play with, and came across one (I forget which one it is now) but they were full with more trumpets than they needed so there was no room for one more. I was put on a waiting list (and funny enough, they did try to recruit me for their band about 6 months ago!).
So when I heard the CCB playing that night, I found out the name of the band and emailed Fred from my spot in the audience. This was the band for me. I wasn’t expecting such a quick reply, but I heard back from him that night saying they would LOVE more trumpets and that I was welcome to join the band. I gladly accepted, and the rest is history! I love Thursday nights and it is such a pleasure to play alongside these great people. It really feels like a family, and I am so proud to be a member of such a wonderful group!
